It has rained all week in Haines. The temperature is a little cooler and it looks like summer is over! Today was the first day for snow in the mountains on the Haines Highway - in August!!!

CHILKOOT LAKE HAINES, ALASKA
THE GREAT ADVENTURE!!!
This blog will follow Bob’s adventures as he takes on a new job as Camp Host at Chilkoot State Park in Haines, Alaska. He lived here for 9 years in the 70’s so he is familiar with the area, the weather, and the bears. It should be quite an adventure.

Bob is all settled in and ready to go to work. He can get the internet when he goes to the library and would enjoy hearing from friends and family. Please do not send forwards!! It is like having dial-up service. Also it may be 3-4 days before he responds to you. I have also attached a link below this message with last years blog in case you want to look at it, and a link to the Chilkat Valley Newspaper. It is published once a week.
For anyone wanting to travel to Alaska the MILEPOST Alaska Travel Planner is a must. It is updated every year. The cost is about $30.00. It lists mile by mile what to expect on highways in Alaska, Yukon Territory, and British Columbia. Below is a link that includes a good description of the MILEPOST and I will have last years copy at my desk for anyone that wants to look at it. http://www.outdoorsdirectory.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=89
